This two day course provides a summary of recent, integrated work on the Wilcox Group by researchers and faculty at the Bureau of Economic Geology (BEG), Jackson School of Geosciences, and our collaborators. We spend day 1 in the new BEG core facility on the Pickle Campus examining several Wilcox core and associated analyses. We discuss the implications for revised depositional system interpretation and improved reservoir predictability. The second day is a field course to outcrops in and around Bastrop, TX where we examine vertical and lateral trends in facies and stratal architectures, analogous to and expanding on those seen in core. Our goal is to provide a broad yet integrated view of the Wilcox depositional system.
Note: You may sign up for this field trip individually or sign up for the paired core workshop (Core Workshop 1: Wilcox Clastics + Field Trip 3 - A Survey of the Wilcox Group from Integrated Core, Wireline, and Outcrop Studies) to receive a discounted rate!
