FT9: World Class and Spectacular Late Cambrian Microbial Reef Outcrops in Mason County, Texas

Leader: André W. Droxler

Date:  Friday 10/22 - Sunday 10/24

See the Registration page for details on registration options

The field trip will visit spectacular outcrops of Upper Cambrian microbial reefs and related facies in Mason County, Texas. The main microbial interval, covering 25 km2 in the study area is located where bioherms and biostromes crop out in cliffs and pavements (bedding plane exposures) along several river and creek valleys, has yielded important reservoir insight along several key themes. This is a unique opportunity to assess varying scales of spatial facies variation and potentially serve as important subsurface reservoir analogs.

Note: This is a multi-day trip that leaves Friday evening and returns on Sunday. Lodging, Saturday/Sunday breakfasts, and Saturday lunch are included in ticket price; participants will be treated to a traditional Swiss raclette dinner on Saturday night as well! Participants responsible for paying for their own dinner on Friday (BBQ) and lunch Sunday.
